Satyam Movie

Satyam -- The Much awaited and published venture as yet for Vishal. Well, other than the Six pack that he has chiseled, the bluntness in chiseling the rest of the production is transparent.

Be it mocking other police Hero's (Porukki illa police - Saamy, 50 rupees bullet - Kaaka Kaaka) punch dialogs, or the songs which are not meant to be, The director has done too much of injustice to the effort and the excellence that the technicians have put in. It goes to show how he promotes the hero more than concentrating on a better movie.

Editing is like a run in the jungle. But it is to be clarified of whether the screenplay edited the editor.

Without further delay, the story line goes like this. A Cop who is fueled by the inspirational character of a small town police inspector from his childhood adorns the khaki and becomes the ACP.

A Cop with a difference, to use point blank questionnaire in tackling the criminals to become approvers and serving justice even to the criminals, one fine day ends up investigating the case to find the killer of two ministers.

More of a split personality where in the morning he investigates, serves the minister who gets killed under his surveillance, and when returning home, prefers to visit turkey and other exotic locations with a bikini competing attired Nayan Thara and relaxes himself under her shade.

And so moves the story with one shadow, killing ministers. The whole scenario of the killing is shown as a race for the hot seat with the CM terminally ill. One close ally of the CM who stage manages these killings, later finds that it is afterall not he who succeeded. The shadow reveals itself to be Upendra, the only consolation for the audience in the movie.

This Star from Kannada industry proves that he is the way forward for his industry. Excellent in the role that he played, he shows lot of maturity and added lot of manliness to the story line.

Then Vishal learns that this real life hero of Vishal became what he is today to save democracy from the corrupt leaders. Vishal challenges Upendra that he will make democracy live and tries proving that by arresting a close ally of the police minister.

He ends up losing his mother and gets locked in the cell opposite Upendra's. Then he escapes the jail with ease, finds two pistols fully loaded and starts the horror.

Yes, the comedy track of the movie is completely concentrated to the last 10 minutes. I dont know why directors keep revisiting the 80's to try and talk their way to heavenliness. It is ridiculous to see a tonsured vishal (reminds of an extra from the chain clad vikram scene of Sethu). Even though the script needed him to do something different, it could have been a better one. This really let him down.

And finally , as in all good hero movies, justice is served, all the police get baptized, the state salutes him.

The Final Verdict :

Goodies:
1. Vishal's dedication in chiseling his body. especially the six pack, even though looks less professional compared to Surya's.
2.The music score from Harris Jayaraj. Especially the songs and the heavy sax background score on Vishal's intro.
3.Nayan Tara's up close scenes with Vishal (was that actually a candid camera or something?).
4.Upendra

Let Downers:
1. Vishal - He needs to throw in more work on his voice.
2. It was like looking at a Telugu movie since even most close faced shots were just taken in telugu and simply dubbed in Tamil.
3. The car chase sequence - People are not dumb to look at animation and accept that for a CG. efforts put in by Kamal Hassan and others should be revisited and more refinement should be brought in in linking the CG and Real life shots.
4. The biggest of all - Direction -- this is a perfect example of what can pull you down even if you had a very good story line. Screenplay, song placement, intensity of Upendra's family background- all these were let down.

Result : Satyam - a movie where Vishal and Nayan got a chance to know each other up close.
Rating : *....
